Comment just in, 74.5% of non-EU applicants on the waiting list for council housing are *failed* asylum seekers. Council housing is allocated to the people who are most likely to cause trouble, because letting them jump the queue is easier than dealing with their drama. A housing official once told me this (off the record of course). Whether they’re fake asylum seekers or scumbags, it’s easier to just house them quickly. They usually get a house on the edge of an estate, not deep inside where they’re likely to get into conflict with all the neighbours. The unofficial policy is to house them near the town so they won’t have to walk to far to the Social Welfare office, cheap shops, etc – the idea is to cut down the time they spend on the footpath causing drama.
