Did you know that the term Rickshaw Driver was coined by my great-great-grandfather, the landlord William H. Badbody, in 1897? A devoted horse enthusiast and self-styled innovator, William despised the mistreatment of animals. In response, he chose to have Irish peasants from his estates draw his carriages instead. The first man to fill this role was Rick Shaw of Portlaw, who tragically died from exhaustion. In a gesture he considered honourable, William officially renamed all future carriage-pullers “Rickshaw” by deed poll, in memory of the original. #FunFacts #Badbody
