Recent news reports indicate that a Garda (Irish police officer) based in Dublin has been suspended following allegations that he attempted to hire a hitman on the dark web to murder his former partner. The officer allegedly sought to have the woman’s home firebombed with “no survivors,” offering several thousand euros in bitcoin as payment. The plot was uncovered after a tip-off led to an investigation by the Garda Anti-Corruption Unit, with assistance from Interpol. The officer was reportedly scammed by the supposed hitman, who took the money and cut off contact. While the Garda member has been suspended, he has not been arrested, and the investigation faces challenges due to the anonymous nature of darknet communications. No findings have been reached yet, and the officer’s identity has not been disclosed.
