Both Jamie Varley and John McGowan-Fazakerley are in custody awaiting a hearing at Preston Crown Court on Monday (June 16). they were initially arrested after the baby died in 2023, but appear to have been free since then awaiting formal charges. those were finally pressed last week after what seems like an insanely long delay. Varley is charged with two counts of assault by penetration of a child, one count of sexual assault of a child, five counts of cruelty to a person under 16, ten counts of taking indecent photographs of a child, and one count of inflicting grievous bodily harm. McGowan-Fazakerley is charged with one count of allowing the death of a child, two counts of cruelty to a person under 16, and one count of sexual assault of a child. all of the charges relate to the abuse and rape of the 13-month-old baby boy, whose name was Preston Davey.
