A STABLE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT???

On a fundamental level, the Irish government’s failure to provide a stable Justice Department will erode public confidence in democracy and the state. This government seems to think that the Justice system is simply a given, an unquestionable and unshakable institution that’s theirs to tinker with as they please. It isn’t. It’s the most essential element of the social contract between government and populace and it is being undermined. The judicial system is what keeps people from giving in to their natural instincts in relation to justice. The Justice system promises victims restitution and in turn the populace agrees not to resort to retribution. When the Justice system puts p*edophiles and long term violent offenders back on the streets because of a lack of prison spaces, the state fails to fulfil the social contract and risks people resorting to natural law to protect themselves. This has been a constant factor in the two most recent FF/G governments. They have failed to secure Irish borders and they put the populace at risk in doing so and instead of isolating illegal entrants, they have forced them into small, close-knit communities. In doing so they have removed all democratic challenges. They have employed a ‘no veto, no consultation’ policy in ramming these people into communities and that has resulted in several facilities being burned out as people resort to retribution against the state. Ireland is facing it’s gravest structural and institutional crisis since the foundation of the state as an increasingly authoritarian government aims to force its will on the people in a transaction that goes one way only.
