America is named after Amerigo Vespucci, a Catholic explorer. Comment in, Thank you. No doubt Europe will be renamed after an explorer for Africa / Ukraine / other countries where our immigrants are coming from. Because they are certainly “discovering” this continent. Some might argue (disingenously) that Europeans conquered other countries and colonised them; while this is true, this is not the fault of the people living in Europe today. To make us pay for the sins of our forefathers (in my case Viking and Norman), is akin to making the Americans, Austalians, white South Africans and indeed Irish leave and return to the homes of their ancestors… I don’t think the Norwegians would be please dif the Irish suddenly returned to reclaim their ancestral homes, like the Jews moving into Palestine in 1947. Sadly, we are all squatters in our homes. The only way forward is to prevent future squatting: maintain our borders, police them, fight against any attempt to encroach further (eg, settlements). At present the Ukrainins etc are building “settlements” in Ireland, in every community – the difference here is that our own politicians, from all parties, are actively encouraging this settlement of our country, as a proxy colonisation by the European countries who, in the 15th century, colonised much of America and Africa.
