

Integration tip of the day… If you are a recent migrant to Ireland, do not speak on behalf of Irish people. For example, when you immediately position yourself in public life and say any of the following in heavily accented English, you look entitled and untrustworthy. “We as a nation…” “We Irish…” “Ireland is a nation that…” “Irish people need to…” There is no magic dirt. You do not become Irish by stepping off a plane in Dublin Airport. You may become a very well integrated immigrant in your lifetime but no more. Anyone claiming otherwise is dishonest and people sense that no matter how many NGOs, academics and media personalities pretend that you can become as Irish as the Irish themselves.
