Democracies have interests and values. Putting values before interests is unusual in foreign policy, particularly when interests are sacrificed. That is what has happened with Ireland’s Israel/Palestine position, and the costs became abundantly clear this past week. Delusions about ‘leadership’ on the Middle-East need to end.
