“ It’s not feasible” to check if people are illegally in the country. So they can stay here for years living off the state and never get caught but “it’s not feasible”. I interviewed a man from the Congo who was 5 years on a deportation order and then met a woman and had children and proceeded to apply for permission to remain on the grounds he had made a life for himself with an Irish woman. They know they will most likely will never be removed forcibly.
