A search will be carried out as part of the investigation in the disappearance and murder of Fiona Sinnott in 1998.

The search is being carried out on open ground at an unnamed location in Co Wexford.

This area of land will be searched and subject to excavation, technical and forensic examinations over the coming days.

Road closures will be in place, and local diversions will be in operation.

Ms Sinnott was 19 when she disappeared.

She was socialising at Butler’s Pub in Broadway, Co Wexford, with friends on the night of Sunday 8 February, 1998. She left the pub at around midnight, which was the last confirmed sighting of her.

A motorcyclist saw a male and female on the road near Kisha Cross at around midnight that night, and there were two men in their late teens or early 20s close by.

None of these four people have come forward and gardaí say they are anxious to trace them or anyone who was in the vicinity who did not, or could not, come forward at the time.
