The issue with Irish politicians throwing themselves around as moral authorities on the global stage is that Ireland’s economy is built upon American Foreign Direct Investment. “Federal anti-boycott laws make it illegal for U.S. companies to comply with foreign government boycott requests targeting Israel. That means American firms that change their behavior in response to Ireland’s new law — whether by canceling contracts, terminating suppliers or rerouting goods away from Israeli partners in the West Bank — could face serious penalties at home.” Nations only get to be global players if they have the economic power to back up their plays. Economic vassal states need to shut up and accept their place in the global pecking order or else be masterful diplomats. Irish politicians are not masterful diplomats.
