For the “shur didn’t de Irish go everywhere” brigade. Note the *slight* difference between losing both your arms in battle to earn your place in a new land & simply ripping up your passport at Dublin Airport & expecting a hotel room in a holiday destination with bed & board.

#OnThisDay 1864 A combined Union Navy-Army defeated the Confederates at the Battle of Mobile Bay. Roughly 20% of the Union Navy were Irish. In the fighting, 14 Irish men in the navy were awarded the Medal of Honor. Richard Dunphy (pic) was one of them. #Ireland #History
