The Republic of Ireland has utterly FAILED its people… In 1922, our constitution contained a powerful clause allowing citizens to demand referendums on issues that mattered to them. The establishment later removed this clause to protect its control of the Dáil. The 1937 Constitution, which still governs Ireland today, did not restore citizen-initiated referendums: only the Oireachtas (Parliament) can now initiate referenda, and citizens have lost the ability to directly force votes on important issues. We succeeded against the world’s greatest military power in 1916, but now we are prisoners in our own democracy. This calls for a complete constitutional reset, returning power directly to the Irish people, Reclaiming Ireland’s sovereignty is more important now than ever.
