A LIDL supermarket and a Costa Coffee in Co Dublin were among ten premises handed closure orders by food safety chiefs last month.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland slapped both businesses with closure orders after inspectors found evidence of rats at both locations.

Lidl on the Sallynoggin Road in Glenageary was issued with a food closure order under the FSAI act after a “grave and immediate danger to food safety” was found by inspectors in July.

Rodent dropping were found to be evident on the shop floor behind a food display unit, to the side of a freezer and in a store room.

The Lidl store was served with a closure order and temporarily shut down on July 29 – but the notice was lifted and the shop reopened on August 1.

The Costa Coffee on Dawson Street in Dublin 2 was hit with a closure order under EU regulations by the FSAI on July 2.nspectors found rat droppings in the dishwasher room, food store and at the main customer entrance of the coffee shop.

The FSAI closure order on the business was lifted on July 4.

The kitchen areas of the Brandon Hotel on Prince’s Street in Tralee, Co Kerry was also issued with a closure order in July.

All kitchen areas including the dry goods store, washup areas, staff canteen, restaurant and stills area were closed from July 23 until the notice was lifted on July 25.
