As we say time and time again, justice delayed is justice denied. A defendant, originally arrested in 2023, has had their trial listed for July 2029. This crisis is letting victims, witnesses, defendants, professionals and the public down. We continue to urge the Government to address the inefficiencies that currently exist in our criminal justice system caused by decades of underfunding. We don’t have time to wait for structural reform. As barrister Mark Robinson says in this article, we need more resource, not the removal of the fundamental right to be tried before your peers.
