The victim left the scene before officers arrived

A MAN has been arrested after a woman was sexually assaulted in a West Yorkshire cemetery.

The incident took place around 5.15pm on Saturday in the grounds of All Saints Church on Branch Road, Batley.

Two passersby rushed to help the woman, believed to be in her 20s, before contacting police.

But she left the scene before officers arrived and has not yet been identified.

West Yorkshire Police are now urging her to come forward – as well as one of the men who raised the alarm.

He is described as a male who helped the victim moments after the incident and used the other passerby’s phone to make the 999 call.
