A MAN is fighting for his life in hospital after he was attacked in Co Mayo on Saturday morning.
The victim, 28, suffered a serious head injury after the incident in the Tucker Street area of Castlebar, Co Mayo at 2.50am.
A sports star has been linked to the incident but has yet to be interviewed by Gardai.
We understand the injured man is originally from Co Offaly and was visiting the west of Ireland over the weekend.
He was left unconscious after being struck in the head and was brought to Castlebar Hospital.
But his condition deteriorated over the weekend and he was rushed to Beaumont Hospital on Sunday morning.
