A MURDER investigation has been launched in Down after a man’s body was discovered last night.

The grim find was made in the Slievenabrock Avenue area of Newcastle at around 10.30pm yesterday.

The scene has been cordoned off and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Kerrie Foreman of the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team said: “Our enquiries are at an early stage and I am appealing to anyone who believes they may have information which could assist us with our investigation, any dashcam or doorbell footage to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 1746 24/08/25.”

And the Chief Inspector told worried locals they would see a police presence in the area as the scene remains sealed off.

She said: “We understand this news will cause shock and concern within this close-knit community of Newcastle.
