How to Solve the Irish Flag Debate, Over the past few years I’ve been consistent in calling my outlook as “Danish Social Democrat”.. ..and so, once again, lets look to Denmark for inspiration.

the Danish flag is called the Dannebrog

and it belongs to the people. Anyone can fly it but only from sunrise to sunset. It can only be flown at night if illuminated properly. The Dannebrog must be treated with upmost respect. Never touch the ground or water. Never used as decoration in a disrespectful way Worn-out/torn flags are destroyed respectfully

Foreign national flags

cannot fly alone. They must always fly with the Dannebrog in the place of honour (highest/left).

Pride,

EU, UN, sports & other flags are allowed. But only if the Dannebrog is also present.. and always second to it. The Danish state has a list of flag days too (royal birthdays, Constitution Day, Liberation Day) The core principle is simple: The Dannebrog is always first, highest, and last. All other flags are welcome.. but never in its place. Ireland…I think we can do this.
