
More than 700 Schools have been closed in Greece due to a prolonged demographic crisis Greece has one of the lowest fertility rates in the European Union – around 1.3 births per woman, far below the replacement level of 2.1. The population is rapidly aging, while young people are leaving the country in large numbers. In the 2025–2026 Academic year, 721 schools will be closed after failing to reach the minimum threshold of 15 students required to remain open.
