The UK announced last year that it will investigate the Muslim Brotherhood’s activities in the UK under new extremism definitions. MB’s influence in the UK has raised concerns, with many reports suggesting a “bottom-up” strategy to promote Islamist values through community organizations, Mosques and Charities. A 2015 UK gov review found MB-associated groups have at times influenced national Muslim organizations, sometimes portraying the UK as hostile to Muslim identity. The reports show that the MB promotes separatism and gradual acceptance of Sharia governance in close cooperation with groups like the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB). The 2015 review noted the MB’s ideology seeks a Caliphate under Sharia with many future terrorists using MB networks as a “rite of passage” to extremism. As steps are now being taken in the U.S. and France to ban the Muslim Brotherhood, a Debate has erupted in the UK whether the Country should follow suit.
