Aodhán Ó Ríordáin has announced that he will protest the attendance of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at this weekends Ireland v Hungary match, stating that Orbán, known for his right-wing politics, “is not welcome in Dublin.” But since when does Deputy Ó Ríordáin speak on behalf of the people of Dublin? His stance suggests that only left-wing politics are acceptable in Ireland, despite the fact that we live in a democracy where freedom of debate and differing views are fundamental. It is worth recalling that he went to Europe under the slogan “For the Love of Dublin.” Yet, one year on, what has he delivered for the people of Dublin?
