Enoch Burke, the controversial secondary school teacher who has been fined over €79,000 for attending Wilson’s Hospital School in breach of a court order has landed almost €24 million in a lucky lottery windfall.

The April 1st draw left Enoch Burke as the sole winner, matching all 13 numbers and the bonus number for the jackpot prize. The winning numbers were 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 862, the bonus number was Pi to six decimal places.

Incredibly, the €23,847,600 jackpot is exactly 102 years worth of the daily fines applied to Enoch Burke since the daily fine was doubled by an Irish court in March 2025.

Cllr. Jo King, councillor for Castlebar and owner of the newsagent which sold Enoch Burke the winning ticket said: “It’s great news for the town, we are delighted that a local family won.

“There’s a great buzz around, but at the same time we’d be worried he would actually spend the 102 years outside the school and he’d have nothing left over to enjoy himself with.”

I would blow that €23.8 million on fun stuff, like campaigning for the reinstatement of the Western Rail Corridor from Claremorris to Athenry, or a go-kart made of solid gold.”

Tekon D. Piece, Mayo GAA superfan, had other ideas for the cash and made a plea to Enoch Burke: “Please. Please. Please. Invest the money into Mayo GAA, either by building our own dome and fostering a world-class development system, or buy off some refs. Anything.”

Haven Alaff, local TD, pointed out that Knock Airport, now known as Ireland Airport West, cost around £9million in old money.

A little bit more than €25million when adjusted for inflation and squiggled on to make it into Euro.
