HEATHER Humphreys has revealed that she attended Orange Order parades as a child but stopped going once the Troubles broke out Ms Humphreys launched her presidential campaign yesterday at the Peace Campus in Monaghan, close to the border with Northern Ireland.

The Peace Campus is a shared space for people in the border region to bring people together and address issues of separation and division.

In her speech to party members, she mentioned how her grandfather had signed the Ulster Covenant, an oath of resistance against home rule on the island of Ireland, in 1912.

And talking to the media, she referenced her Protestant heritage as she said she wanted to “reach out” to communities in Northern Ireland.
