Detectives are investigating whether foul play was involved in the death of a young girl in Dublin last night.
The child’s father was also discovered dead at the property in the Cappagh area shortly before 8pm with an investigation underway into the incident.
The Irish Independent understands that the girl’s mother made the shocking discovery after returning to her home in the Heathfield estate and raised the alarm.
Detectives are treating the death of the young girl, who is five years old, as suspicious and are probing whether foul play was involved.
However, gardaí have said that the results of post-mortem examination will determine the course of their investigation.
Investigators are keeping an open mind in relation to the discovery of the two bodies but at this stage do not suspect third-party involvement, with no signs of a break-in at the property.
Members of the Garda Technical Bureau could be seen carrying out examinations at the property on Sunday morning, while gardaí have also been conducting inquiries in the area.

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of two bodies at a domestic residence in Finglas, Dublin, on Saturday, 27th September 2025.
“Gardaí and emergency services were called to a residence in the Cappagh area shortly before 8:00pm.
“The bodies of the deceased, an adult male and a female child, remain at the scene. The location has been preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
“The Coroner has been notified and the services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested. Post-mortem examinations will be arranged in due course.
“The results of these examinations will assist Gardaí in determining the course of the investigation.
