Dal is being housed in one of three migrant hotels in Bournemouth

A TURKISH asylum seeker who stabbed a man with a broken bottle outside a bar avoided jail and deportation, a court heard.

Halil Dal attacked Kashif Chugtai outside a nightclub in Bournemouth at around 5.30am on December 14 last year.

The 30-year-old was caught on camera smashing the glass bottle against a wall before lunging towards his victim.

Mr Chugtai was slashed on the back, but was not seriously injured.

Dal is currently being housed in one of the three migrant hotels in Bournemouth, Dorset.

The defendant admitted a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and narrowly avoided jail.

Nicola Phillips, chair of the bench said: “This was a serious incident which could have ended up in tragedy.

“However, we only have evidence of minor harm physically to the victim.”

Dal’s mitigation saw him receive a 24-week sentence suspended for 18 months.

He will be subject to a monitoring tag and curfew between 7pm and 7am.
