Gas stations across Russia are reportedly diluting gasoline to curb soaring prices amid an ongoing fuel shortage, causing widespread engine failures in Chinese cars. Drivers have reported sudden power loss and uncontrollable jerking while on the road. One Geely owner said she drove just 300 kilometers in her new car before it started shaking violently and spewing thick white-blue smoke. Geely Motors has blamed poor fuel quality in Russia, saying the gasoline contains excessive oxidants that cause detonation and severe engine damage.
