Protecting Against Predators As I read the horrific details of a how a 10-year-old girl “absconded from State care” and was lured onto the grounds of Citywest Hotel, to be brutally raped… all I can I think of is how much the Govt have been warned. In 2023, UCD released an explosive report “Protecting Against Predators”. The report warns that groups of men are targeting children in State care, Grooming them via social media & Trafficking them to hotels. The report makes a direct comparison to UK’s grooming gang scandals in Rotherham & Rochdale. Some chilling quotes from the report: “there’s groups of men,.. targeting children in care are only the tip of the iceberg,” “children and young people in State care in Ireland are being targeted in an organised manner for sexual exploitation and are taxied to hotels around the country” “Girls are being picked up in taxis and brought to hotels where they are coerced or enticed to provide sexual acts to multiple men in exchange for money, phones, or drugs” “It’s organised, not random: networks sharing kids like commodities, just like the UK grooming gangs in Rotherham, we’re seeing the same playbook here.” Two years on from publication…Ireland has ignored the red flags. What happened is NOT isolated. This is systematic. This is the Magdalene Laundries or Mother & Baby Home or Church Abuse scandal of our time. Everyone in polite society too afraid to speak up. Will anyone in Govt be brave enough to call it out?
