The man who died following an assault in Kildare town has been named locally.
Ryan Gibbons, aged in his 20s, was found unresponsive on Magee Terrace on the Dublin Road at around 3.15am on Sunday.
He was taken to Naas General Hospital where he later died.
The coroner was notified and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
They added that the results of the examination will determine the course of the investigation.
They are appealing for witnesses and are asking anyone who was in the area between 2am and 4am on Sunday to contact them.
