In Carey’s case, given the nature of his crimes, he was assessed as potentially “stubborn”, “arrogant” and “belligerent”.

However, he was the exact opposite when he arrived to begin his five and a half year term, with sources saying he was “completely stunned”, “utterly rattled”, “as white as a ghost” and that there “wasn’t a peep out of him”.

Carey has been held in the committal wing of Mountjoy Prison since he was jailed on Monday.

We understand bosses are considering moving him to the progression unit of the jail. If moved, he could spend time alongside convicted sex offenders.
