THREE people have been arrested by gardai investigating the murder of William Delaney in Co Laois.

The women, aged in their 30’s and 50’s, and the man, aged in his 30’s, are currently detained at Garda Stations in the Midland and Southwestern regions.

William, who was a Tipperary native who lived in Portlaoise where he had a large family, went missing on January 30, 2019.

The 56-year-old had left Portlaoise General Hospital where he had been receiving treatment and collected his welfare payments at Portlaoise Post Office that morning.

He then called to visit a relative on the old Cork-Dublin Road in Monasterevin, Co Kildare at around 3pm.

The relation was not home as this time but the dad-of-eight was seen outside the premises, which is located directly opposite a local landmark known as the Hazel Hotel.

Detectives were initially treating the case as a missing persons case but it was later upgraded to a murder probe after a woman came forward to claim her brother had confessed to killing the dad.

In June 2019, Gardai were tipped off that William had been killed and his body buried in the area of the Rock of Dunamaise in Co Laois.

Following her statement, a search of the popular Co Laois tourist spot, the Rock of Dunamase, was undertaken but nothing was found.

“The women (aged in their 30’s and 50’s) and the man (aged in his 30’s) are currently detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at Garda Stations in the Midland and South Western regions.
