Two members of An Garda Siochana have been suspended from the force in recent days – one over alleged sexual assault of a female colleague and the second over harassing a female colleague.
One of the members of the force is stationed at a garda station in the north-western area and the other is stationed in the north-eastern area.
One of the officers, a Garda Sergeant, has been suspended from the force over allegations of harassing a female member while a second member has been suspended on allegations of sexually assaulting a female officer, we can reveal.
The senior officer, accused of harassment, based in the north-western region, was suspended in recent weeks over the allegations of harassment, the Irish Mirror has learned.
Sources say that male officer was allegedly “infatuated” with his female colleague, who is reportedly in a long-term relationship. He is alleged to have harassed her over a period of time before she filed an official complaint.
“The male officer allegedly cornered her on several occasions and called her home unnecessarily,” sources say.
Sources also said he is alleged to have not allowed the female officer to accompany other male colleagues on patrol because of his “infatuation” with her.
In a statement to the Irish Mirror, An Garda Siochana confirmed the suspension of that male officer. However, that case so far, remains being investigated by An Garda Siochana presently rather than Fiosru.
“An Garda Siochana is investigating an incident of harassment. A member of An Garda Siochana in the North Western Region has been suspended in connection with this investigation.
“In accordance with Section 204 of the PSCS Act, An Garda Síochána has notified Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, of this matter as an incident of concern.”
Meanwhile, the second member of the force, who is accused of sexual assault, and is also suspended, his case has been referred to Fiosru.
In a statement, An Garda Siochana said: “A Garda based in the North East is suspended in relation to allegations of sexual assault,” the statement said.
“An Garda Siochana has referred this matter to Fiosru under Section 203 of the PSCS Act.”
Fiosru, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, is the body that investigates allegations of misconduct against the Garda Siochana, including serious allegations such as sexual assault, when a member of the public or another Garda makes a complaint.
