Good morning all, It has come to our attention that a number of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments will soon be made available to Dublin City Council in the new development in East Wall. We encourage everyone currently on the housing list to arrange an appointment with Derek Brown, who is responsible for allocations in the North Inner City area. We strongly advise that you make this appointment as soon as possible. We also believe that Minister James Brown and Mary Hayes should now meet with long-standing applicants on the housing list — particularly parents who have been waiting for years — to explain why people currently in emergency accommodation are being prioritised over those who have waited patiently for permanent housing. There are several important questions that must now be asked: 1. Why has Dublin City Council only recently received funding to purchase private homes across parts of Dublin? Why was this not done years ago? 2. Who is authorising and approving the use of taxpayers’ money to purchase these homes? 3. Why is there no consultation with councillors or people on the housing list regarding these purchases? Finally, we are closely monitoring properties currently on the market in the East Wall area and will continue to observe who purchases these homes in the coming months.
