A PRISON officer has admitted romping with a violent robber behind bars and smuggling in cannabis for him.
Alicia Novas, 19, had a four-month fling with 30-year-old Declan Winkless, who was serving an 11-year sentence for aggravated burglary.
Northampton Crown Court heard Novas “wilfully misconducted” herself “in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public’s trust”.
This included providing her phone number to the lag and failing to report he had cannabis and a mobile.
Both defendants admitted making an unauthorised transmission of an image or sound from within a prison.
They also pleaded guilty to conveying cannabis into the jail as well as smuggling two mobile phones.
Winkless pleaded guilty to a seventh charge of possessing a device with a sim card at HMP Five Wells without authority on December 22 last year.
Novas, who had previously been on conditional bail, was remanded into custody following her guilty pleas.
She was supported in court by her family, with one woman sitting in the public gallery crying into a tissue as she was led to the cells.
Winkless was locked up in 2021 for his part in an armed burglary gang that carried out terrifying night-time raids.
Some of the victims were tied up and gagged by the robbers, who slapped a toddler in front his pregnant mum as they demanded cash.
The thug was transferred to HMP Swaleside in Kent when his relationship with Novas came to light.
He will be sentenced with his prison officer lover on January 5.
