CRIME boss Gerry Hutch will not be charged over alleged money laundering in the Canary Islands, we can reveal.

Garda sources say the case against him will soon be ditched by the Spanish prosecutor and there is no money trail linking him to the alleged crimes.

This move is expected to pave the way for The Monk to stand in the Dublin Central by-election after the recent resignation of Paschal Donohoe from his seat.

The Government is likely to move the writ for the by-election to the spring.

Hutch, 62, is currently out on bail while the money laundering investigation is ongoing in Lanzarote, where he resides for most of the year.

In a joint operation, the Guardia Civil and the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation were probing large sums of money used to buy properties in Spain.

He was released on €100,000 bail in early November 2024 and, a few weeks later, narrowly missed out on winning a Dail spot in the four-seater Dublin constituency — after getting over 3,000 first-preference votes.

A Garda source said: “We expect the case against Gerry Hutch to be dropped very soon by the Spanish authorities.

“The investigation into him has gone cold.
