A jury took just 17 minutes to unanimously clear Royal Marine veteran, Jamie Michael, of stirring up racial hatred after he was arrested for a posting a video about illegal immigration. Despite their verdict, Jamie has been banned from working with children. An official safeguarding board at his local Labour council has ruled him “unsuitable” to be around children despite never having watched Jamie’s video. The panel — which met in secret — has barred him from coaching his daughter’s football team and told he would be “monitored” if he watched from the sidelines. Jamie is suing the authorities for £25,000. As he says: “It makes no sense. It seems they want to punish me because of my opinions and because my views don’t align with theirs.” But Jamie isn’t alone. We’ve represented more than a dozen people who have been referred to safeguarding boards for allegedly “extreme” views — a trend that has rocketed since the Southport attacks.
