The nation’s top Muslim civil rights group is taking Ron DeSantis to federal court after he labeled it a “foreign terrorist organization.” CAIR, which has more than 20 chapters across the U.S., says DeSantis’s executive order oversteps his authority and violates the Constitution. The lawsuit, filed late Monday, asks a federal judge to block the order, which also targets the Muslim Brotherhood and bans state agencies from working with either group or anyone who’s supported them. CAIR says it was singled out for defending free speech – specifically, for backing people who spoke up for Palestinian rights. The group calls DeSantis’s claims “baseless” and says only the federal government has the power to make terrorism designations. DeSantis responded: “I look forward to discovery – especially the CAIR finances. Should be illuminating!” This fight’s heading to court, and DeSantis says he’s ready. Source: Guardian
