Her argument: the EU doesn’t just mismanage crises – it weaponizes them. Migration? Check. COVID? Check. Ukraine? Now it’s expanding into defense powers that, according to her reading of EU treaties, belong solely to member states. “I don’t have the feeling that the European Union is pushing for the realization of the American peace plan. On the contrary, I have the feeling that von der Leyen, with the support and even the complicity of Macron, is doing everything precisely so that this peace does not happen. And this is also a concern because in reality the deep feeling that I have is that the European Union is systematically using crises to be able to advance its pawns and to be able to attribute powers, skills that the treaties have not attributed to it. It was true with the migratory crisis, where it attributed itself to the competence in terms of immigration. It was true with the Covid, where it attributed itself to the competence of health.
