1941 Blair ‘Paddy’ Mayne, from Co. Down, and five of his SAS soldiers raided Wadi Tamet airstrip deep behind enemy lines in Libya for the second time in two weeks, destroying 50 aircraft altogether. The airstrip got the nickname, “Paddy’s Own’.
