Of all the different creatures in Scandinavian folklore, tomtar are the ones that are most closely associated with Christmas. Tomtar are solitary creatures that prefer to keep to themselves, but they have a special connection with animals and are known to take very good care of them. According to folklore, tomtar are even able to speak and understand animal languages.
