A Moroccan man has appeared in court following the seizure of around €3.74m worth of cocaine at Rosslare Europort last week.

Revenue Officers discovered 55.3kg of the suspected drug after searching a vehicle which disembarked from a ferry from France on 23 December.

Semion Stegar, 41, appeared before Waterford District Court via video link on two charges under Section 3 and Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

When the accused appeared before Judge Cepha Power, Prosecuting Sergeant Victor Isdell told the court he was applying for an adjournment to await directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

He asked that the matter be adjourned back to Wexford District Court on 12 January to await further instructions.

Ms Róisín O’Mara BL, instructed by Ed King Solicitors for the accused, said they had no objections to the application and consented to a further remand in custody.

Judge Power said he would remand the accused in continuing custody to appear before Wexford District Court on 12 January.

The accused, who had an interpreter in court, did not make any application.
