A Garda punched his daughter in the face in a “most cruel” assault after she came home from a night out at a concert with her family. George Magdelina (43) attacked his daughter (21) in a “complete loss of self-control” as they argued about the smell of food he was cooking, a court heard. December 2025 court case where Garda George Magdelina, a Dublin-based officer of apparent foreign origin, pleaded guilty to punching his 21-year-old daughter during a domestic dispute over cooking smells, leading to his suspension on full pay. Magdelina, who joined An Garda Síochána in 2017 after prior security work and handled high-profile cases, faces no prior convictions but expressed remorse; the assault caused significant trauma to his daughter, including mental health impacts and her relocation from home.
