Robbers would ask victims to unlock their phones before fleeing

TWO migrant burglars who used the dating app Grindr to dupe their way into victims’ homes have been jailed.

Rahmat Khan Mohammadi, 23, and Mohammed Bilal Hotak, 27, targeted at least 35 victims during the crime spree.

They would use the gay dating app Grindr to contact their victims then plan to meet them at their homes.

Once inside, Mohammadi and Hotak would persuade the men to hand over their phone pins under the guise of wanting to play music.

They then swiftly left the properties with the unlocked phones so they could make contactless payments or transfer money to themselves.

Mohammadi and Hotak also applied for bank overdrafts using their victims’ names.

Mohammadi has now been jailed for five years after he was convicted of 17 counts of burglary, 12 of fraud and one of theft.

Hotak was sentenced to three-and-a-half years after he was found guilty of 14 counts of burglary, nine of fraud and one of theft.

Isleworth Crown Court heard the pair carried out 35 burglaries and 20 related scams using the app between October 2024 and March 2025.

On one occasion, the pair attempted to take out money in an East London casino called Merkur Slots.
