Arrest after man in his 60s dies following Co Donegal assault

A man in his 30s has been arrested after a man in his 60s was found dead in Co Donegal in the early hours of this morning.

At around 3.50am, emergency services responded to reports of an assault at a home outside the town of Ard an Rátha.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man in his 30s was arrested at a second location and is being detained at a garda station in Co Donegal.

It is understood the dead man is a well known businessman in the Ard an Rátha area.

The scene near Ard an Rátha has been preserved for an examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Ballyshannon Garda Station.

A Family Liaison Officer has also been assigned to support the family of the deceased.
