A cordon was put in place around Blanchardstown Garda Station

Armed gardaí and negotiators were called in following an incident at a Dublin garda station in the early hours of the morning.

Shortly before 4am, a man entered Blanchardstown Garda Station and threatened gardaí.

An Garda Síochána initiated its Operational Command protocol and appointed an On-Scene Commander.

Local garda negotiators from the National Negotiators Unit, along with the Armed Support Unit, attended the scene.

A cordon was put in place and roads around the garda station were closed.

Following the incident, a man was detained under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act, 2001.

No injuries were reported and gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
