Things got heated in Lewiston, Maine, where a Somali community member named Mohammed stepped up to the mic at a city meeting. The man got the balls to basically say: “Democrats better quit digging into election fraud claims against one of their own or risk losing the whole Somali voting bloc’s support.” He’s speaking for the community, saying they put these folks in office to protect interests, not stir up division: “My name is Mohamed. I’m speaking today on behalf of the Somali community in Lewiston. Some of you sitting here today, we voted for you. We elected you to protect our community interests, not creating division or go after one elected member from our community. If this narrative continues, our community will be forced to re-examine our political relationship. Including our relationship with the Democratic Party and who will be voting in the future.” The “elected member” in the crosshairs is Iman Osman, a Somali refugee who just got sworn into the Lewiston City Council for Ward 5 despite a pile of red flags. He’s facing charges for stealing a firearm and receiving stolen property, plus he’s accused of lying about his address to qualify for the seat. That spot at 210 Blake St. was condemned after a drug raid and is owned by his brother. On top of that, he snagged a spot on the Lewiston School Board via a mayoral pick, but now that’s looking shady too since the residency claim doesn’t hold up. This all ties into bigger scrutiny on Somali-linked fraud in Maine, like Medicaid scams. The community’s pushing back hard, saying hands off or face the ballot box consequences.
