INMATES at Castlerea Prison are on a 23-hour lockdown after “mystery” drugs were dropped off there by drones.

Bosses are now trying to find out which drugs were smuggled in after some lags became delirious and aggressive last weekend.

The investigation was launched after a package was dropped at the Co Roscommon jail from a drone last Sunday.

A landing was put on lockdown before a search was conducted the following day.

Some of the inmates on the landing were found under the influence of drugs.

Staff believe the drone was ordered by a member of a Galway organised crime group.
