Then tore at his vestments and punched him in the face because he admonished them. It was later revealed that the parishioners consumed the hosts that had been trampled on by the Communists. The Communists put him on trial and declared him an enemy amd accused him of being friendly with Chinese Nationalists Before he had left Ireland for China, a priest had asked him if he was afraid of martyrdom He replied: ‘What of that? What is it after all but bad quarter of an hour? Think of the reward’ After being found guilty by the Communists, he was hacked to death He was just 36 years old
