A BRIT oversaw the sharing of tens of thousands of child sex abuse images while working as a dark web moderator, a court heard.

Matthew Slate, 36, is charged with arranging or facilitating the sexual exploitation of children under 13 on three alleged paedophile sites.

According to the charges, the purposes of the sites is “exclusively in relation to child sexual abuse material and the sharing of that material”.

He was allegedly a “global moderator” under the username Loudechoes for one dark web site.

Slate, who is also accused of participation in the activities of an organised crime group, appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today.

He is also charged with six counts of distributing an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child, three of making an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child and one of possessing a prohibited image of a child.

Slate is accused of facilitating the sharing of more than 2,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse.

He is further alleged to have amassed around 57,000 illegal images of children, including more than 10,000 in the most serious category of abuse.

Slate, of Wood Green, North London, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address..
