The DPP will decide whether members of An Garda Síochána accused of “falsifying records” as part of an alleged fraud to import firearm parts for a private gun club should face criminal charges.

The senior garda stands accused of arranging the importation of firearm parts in his official capacity as a member of An Garda Síochána. However, it is alleged that he then passed this weaponry on to a private firearms club and that the force footed the bill. Importing the weaponry involved obtaining authorisation from the justice minister at that time by An Garda Síochána. The importation took place in 2018, when Fine Gael’s Charlie Flanagan was justice minister.
